Lei Hulu
Traditionally, lei hulu were among the most sacred and valued forms of adornment in Hawaiʻi. They were crafted from feathers gathered carefully over time and were often associated with aliʻi (chiefs), ceremony, and the expression of mana (spiritual power). Colors, feather types, and construction techniques could signify rank, lineage, or purpose.
Today, lei hulu continue to be made and worn with great respect—honoring ancestral practices while sometimes appearing in contemporary forms for ceremony, hula, or cultural presentation.
